In-Home Euthanasia

Every pet deserves a peaceful passing at home, surrounded by family.

Euthanasia in the home is a unique and dignified way to say goodbye to your loving companion. We believe that every pet deserves a passing that is as beautiful as their life and tailored to their individual needs. Wherever your pet is most comfortable should be where they spend their last moments. That may be on the couch, in your lap, soaking-up sun in the yard, or in their bed under the fireplace; every pet is different. Dr. Sarena will do everything she can to accommodate these requests and environments to make your pet's experience peaceful and unique to them. Please understand that adjustments may be needed to accommodate requests while still providing the best care for your pet.

Making this final decision for your furry family member can be overwhelming; emotionally and financially. Since Dr. Sarena believes this is such an important service for pets, she has focused on making it affordable while still providing exceptional care for my patients and support for the pet parents.

When you reach out to Peace for Paws, you’ll be speaking with our dedicated Care Coordinator — a local, compassionate team member (never an answering service) who understands how difficult this time can be. They are here to guide you with empathy and care, answer your questions, and help determine whether in-home euthanasia is the right choice for your pet and your family.

If you would like to speak directly with Dr. Sarena, we offer personalized consultations for a fee. These conversations are designed to provide deeper support, guidance, and reassurance from the veterinarian herself.

Our goal is to make this process as gentle and respectful as possible — from the first phone call through the final goodbye. We understand that saying goodbye takes time, therefore all appointments are scheduled for one hour.

This is an appointment-based service. We recommend making the appointment one to two days in advance, if possible, and require two hours minimum notice for appointments. Knowing that the ability to plan for euthanasia is not always possible, Dr. Sarena does her best to be available for last minute appointments, but please understand this is not always possible. If there is a dire emergency, we recommend taking your pet to the closest open animal hospital as to not prolong your pet’s suffering.

To respect your privacy, Dr. Sarena will arrive without a technician and may request your assistance with moving your pet after the appointment. If assistance is not available and your pet is over 25 pounds, she may need to request assistance from the crematory for an additional fee. Some large breed and most giant breed dogs will require crematory assistance and special scheduling.

Please note that we reserve the right to decline performing any euthanasia if Dr. Sarena feels that it is not in the pet's best interest.

Sarena Olsen, DVM, MS, CPEV

I am an Illinois native that is happy to call the Las Vegas valley home. I obtained my Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois, then worked as a veterinary technician for seven years before returning to school to receive a Master of Animal Science degree from the University of Wyoming and then my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. After working as a general veterinary practitioner in Illinois for several years, my hubby and I decided to plant roots in Nevada to be closer to family.

I understand how difficult it is to make end-of-life decisions for a loving companion and am here to help you through the process. Quality of life is a very important aspect of a pet’s time here with us, and humane euthanasia is a unique gift that we can offer in Veterinary Medicine to pets whose quality of life has diminished. I started Peace for Paws because I believe that pets are family, and they deserve a peaceful passing at home surrounded by their loved ones. I have completed specialized training and certification through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. Becoming a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV) has supplied me with the knowledge and expertise to provide a stress-free and peaceful euthanasia experience for the entire family.

In my free time I enjoy time at home with my hubby and our pets, cooking, and exploring new restaurants in the valley. Whether kayaking with my dog Halas or cuddling with the kitties, I try to embrace and cherish every moment I have with them.
